Mrs. Doty's Class: "Viva Valentine"

Happy Valentine's Day!
This song, "Viva Valentine", by Teresa Jennings is from Music K-8 Volume 11, Issue 3.  These kids learned this song in no time.  They got a little camera shy.  Before I got the camera out, they were dancing like crazy!

Mrs. Dowers' Class: Composing

After creating a whole-class melody, the third graders became composers of their very own song!  Here they are hard at work.  Beethoven would be proud.

Mrs. Dowers' Class: Original Melody

The third graders have been working with dotted quarter and three 3 eighth-note patterns in 6/8 meter all year, as well as improvising. We combined these two skills to create a class melody to the poem "Oh My Fish in the Sky". We used an F pentatonic scale, so our melody ends on F, which is Do.

Mrs. Platt's Class: Kinderpolka

Mrs. Platt's class was having such a good time dancing Kinderpolka I had to take a video!
They are exhibiting great beat, phrasing, and teamwork.  While this is a German folk dance, the kids are wearing Hawaiian leis.  They help the children see who their next partner will be.

Mrs. Fonville's Class: "Pizzicato Polka" by Delibes

Mrs. Fonville's 3rd grade class was just one of the classes to experience this movement activity to "Pizzicato Polka" from the ballet Sylvia by Leo Delibes.  This activity was not only a great lesson in musical form, beat, and the term "pizzicato", but also a great review on telling time with an analog clock and the terms "clockwise" and "counterclockwise".

This movement activity is from John Feierabend's Move It 2! collection
