Mrs. Platt's Class: Kinderpolka
Mrs. Platt's class was having such a good time dancing Kinderpolka I had to take a video!
They are exhibiting great beat, phrasing, and teamwork. While this is a German folk dance, the kids are wearing Hawaiian leis. They help the children see who their next partner will be.
This dance can be found in the book Step Lively by Marian Rose.
Mr. Johnson's Class: Step Bells
Mr. Johnson's class learns about melodic direction as they play the song, "The Snowman" from Spotlight on Music, Kindergarten
Mrs. Fonville's Class: "Pizzicato Polka" by Delibes
Mrs. Fonville's 3rd grade class was just one of the classes to experience this movement activity to "Pizzicato Polka" from the ballet Sylvia by Leo Delibes. This activity was not only a great lesson in musical form, beat, and the term "pizzicato", but also a great review on telling time with an analog clock and the terms "clockwise" and "counterclockwise".
This movement activity is from John Feierabend's Move It 2! collection
